2017 Spring Choir Festival Details

Location and Schedule  

St. Thomas More Catholic Church
1450 South Melrose Drive
Oceanside, CA 92056

Welcome to the Choristers Guild 2017 Spring Children’s and Youth Choir Festival!

Date: Sunday, March 19th

Time: Registration begins at 1:45, and the grand concert will start at 5:00pm.

Address: St. Thomas More Catholic Church  1450 South Melrose Drive
Oceanside, CA 92056

Dress: Any combination of black and white (i.e. white shirt, black pants or skirts, or black dress) You may wear comfortable clothes for the rehearsal and change during the break if you choose. Wear comfortable shoes, there is a lot of standing.

Snacks: Healthy snacks and water will be provided. BYO if you have dietary issues.

Music: If you need to use your music (youth choir, mostly), please put it in a black folder if possible. We will provide lyric sheets for “Church’s One Foundation” and “Jesu Joy”.

Cost:  Cost is $5 per singer, either paid through your choir director or by you when you arrive. There will be a free will offering during the concert. Donations are greatly appreciated!

Phones:  Cell phones need to be TURNED OFF and put away during rehearsal time. We are not responsible for lost items, so please do not bring anything that you can’t bear to lose!

Chaperones: Adult directors and chaperones are welcome, and your help with lining up kids and monitoring outside space and bathrooms is appreciated.

2016 Choristers Guild Girl’s Choir Workshop and Festival Information

Date: Sunday March 6th, 2016

Time: 1:00pm – 6:00pm with 1:00pm registration, 5:30pm concert (schedule TBA)

Where: Clairemont Lutheran Church; 4271 Clairemont Mesa Blvd San Diego 92117

What: The Choristers Guild Girls’ Choir Workshop and Festival is for girls 2nd grade through high school who love to sing. No prior experience or preparation is necessary, although some music reading skills are helpful. You do not need to be a member of a choir to participate. Music will be sacred and multi-denominational, and preparation is not required.

Who: Two directors will conduct the workshops and concert; Kathy Fait will direct the 2nd-5th grade girls, and Nancy Gray will direct the 6th-12th grade girls.

Dress: Solid, bright-colored blouse and black pants or skirts.

Concert: A short concert will be presented at 5:30pm. Come early to get a seat. Concert will also feature young organists; students of Leslie Wolf-Robb.

Snacks: Snacks will be provided.

Cost: Cost is $5 per singer, and $10 for choir directors.

As you are planning for your choir year, we hope you will consider participating in the 6th annual Choristers Guild Festival on Sunday afternoon, March 23rd.

We will be posting the repertoire list with audio links for the festival, and the venue is being finalized and will be announced shortly.

We are thrilled to announce this year’s guest directors:

Nancy Jones-Gray, choral director for the award-winning Poway High School Choirs will be directing the Youth Choir, and

Henry Leck, founder and director of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir will be directing the children.

If you are new to our festivals, a quick explanation:
  • The two age groups are, roughly, 1st-5th grade for the children’s choir, and 6th-12th grade for the youth choir. Age ranges are flexible, and depend on how you group your choirs. These ages are just a guideline.
  • This is a prepared festival. The elementary-age kids should come with the music memorized, and the teens may use music but need to be familiar with it.
  • We bring in world-class directors to work with your kids, so it is well worth the preparation time for the kids to have this opportunity.
  • The children will sing two anthems, the teens will sing two anthems, and there will be three combined anthems. Because there are no individual choir performances, this is the ideal event for small choirs, choir programs just starting out, or even individual singers who would like to have a wonderful choral experience!
  • Think you will have trouble finding the choir time to teach the music? We will offer a couple of group rehearsals to familiarize your kids with the music.
  • Think you will have trouble fitting the music cost into your budget? Ask us about music sharing. We will help you get the music you need!
  • Think the music is too challenging? We can help you with lesson plans and strategies. Just ask! We’re here for you!
  • Is the cost a challenge? At just $5 per child, we offer the best musical education bargain in San Diego.

All sing from beginning through “and be gracious unto you”

Starting at “The Lord Lift up” : Youth only

Starting at “Amen”  Add children on either soprano or alto line (or split between the two, whatever makes sense for your choir)
